A Spiritual and Mental Project

"Had We sent down The Quran on a mountain, you would have seen that mountain humbled and rent asunder. Such are the parables which we put forward for you, that ye may reflect.” (Qur'an 59:21)

What am I doing?
This blog is a space for consideration and understanding of and reflection on the Qur'an. My purpose is to move through the Qur'an verse-by-verse in a linear way and sometimes choose specific verses that are relevant to the time I'm writing. Each post will work on two levels: 1) the actual tafseer (explanation or exegesis) of the Qur'an based on both the traditional sources of tafseer and some interesting ones, 2) my own reflections on this verse in how it is relevant to my personal life, the world, current affairs, etc.

I will probably get a better idea of exactly how this will work, or if it will even follow a unified structure every time as I move on. For now, I just pray to Allah that I manage to do this and do it right.

Why am I doing this?
I'm primarily a literature student, and reading and analysis of literature are (arguably) my greatest intellectual joys. The Qur'an is beautiful: let's just put it out there. It goes well well beyond being just a work of literature, but reading it to reflect on its meanings (among other things) is and should be something I'm doing, both for mental and spiritual growth. So this is my attempt to do that in a way that works for me for several reasons.

Disclaimer
I am not a scholar of Islam or Qur'an, and I don't present here any new explanations of the Qur'an. I am interested, though, in pursuing this path, but for now, these are my own reflections.

If anyone does actually read this (InshaAllah!), please feel free to leave your own reflections. I'd love for this to be a dialogue or collection of different points of view, and if you want me to add your reflections within the posts themselves, let me know!
